Telehealth 2008 conference is open for registration. The Annual Conference
of the Canadian Society of Telehealth is scheduled to take place in Ottawa,
Ontario October 4th thru' 7th. The theme for this years conference is
"Convergence to Care: Patients, Providers and Technology" and the meeting
is being held in conjunction with the International Society for
Telemedicine and e-Health. The ISfTeH General Assembly 2008 will also take

FST had the annual General Assembly Meeting on 26.4.2007 during the National Telemedicine and eHealth conferene in Kuopio. The new board was elected: President, Mr. Jarmo Reponen, Vice-President, Ms. Sinikka Salo, members Ms. Anja Kettunen, Mr. Arto Holopainen, Ms. Anne Kallio, Mr. Seppo Savikurki and Mr. Raino Saarela. The action plan for next year will focus on e.g. founding a new e-journal together with Finnish Social and Health Informatics Association – FinnSHIA.

The
Annual eHealth award was given by FST to 'Tutuks, a virtual visit to a maternity ward'-service.
The Tutuks-service is aimed at families who want to familiarize themselves with the facilities
and nursing practices of a maternity clinic on the Internet - in virtual reality and free
from the confines of time and place. The service provides expecting families information on
what will happen during their stay at the clinic. The information content of the service is
professionally verified. The project realization was carried out in co-operation
with the Kuopio University Hospital departments of gynecology and obstetrics as well as
City of Kuopio Social- and Health Services and Maternity- and Child Care Guidance Centre
unit personnel.

Dr. Sinikka Salo, former secretary of Finnish Society of Telemedicine,
has been nominated as Business Development Director of Finnish Wellbeing Center
in Sendai, Japan, since April 2005. In R&D Unit, both Finnish and local companies
jointly develop new welfare equipment and services by utilizing know-how of Finnish
welfare services for the elderly. New services and products in the field of health
and welfare are developed jointly by both Finnish and local companies and universities.
The main contextual themes of the R&D activities will be:
- ageing society
- services for older persons, including wellbeing technologies
- gerontology (ageing as a process and as a problem).
